And Just like That… I turned the page on Summer And Just like That…

I turned the page on Summer.🍂

This year I am looking forward to the new season, and these cooler mornings and evenings made me jump right in. I added a few sheepskins to our @caneline Nest chairs and Voila! We’re ready for Fall!
Simple as that!✨

I have spent so much time out on our Farmer’s Porch these past few months, I think it’s because I am really enjoying how intimate it’s feeling here with our new set-up. And finding ways to spend more here time as the season changes is just what I need! (Swipe!)
Cheers to sunsets!🧡

(I’m adding a link to my Nest chairs in my bio, and I’ll post a link in my stories, too!)

Wash, Rinse, Repeat… We are expecting a housefu Wash, Rinse, Repeat…

We are expecting a houseful this weekend, it’s my birthday tomorrow 🎂!
This was an unusual summer, we had very little company so it will be nice to visit with my cousins and some friends.

But, normally we get a lot of back to back summer guests (afterall, who doesn’t want to be on Cape Cod in summer?) As one group leaves, the next arrives. To decrease stress and increase my ability to flip our guest room fast, I have a great strategy-and our laundry room is ground zero.

I keep lots of fresh bedding ready to go in our linen closet, including extra pillows and comforters. Here’s a quick tour of our laundry room and how we prepare for the usual season of houseguests.

I’m invested in making my friends and family feel “at home” when they’re here. There is nothing like a luxurious, cozy bed to climb into at night, one they rave about it in the morning. Details are everything for a memorable visit and linens are my first priority!

I’m fussy about bedding and @bollandbranch checks all the boxes for me. Their high quality products wash beautifully and continue to look and feel great for years. The signature sheets sets are perfect for all seasons, they never need ironing and look great with the all the extra cozy layers I add. The linen sheets are gorgeous, the perfect weight for summer and they get softer with each wash. They are the closest thing to the beautiful and practical bedding I find in Europe.

With an organized linen closet, with everything prepared, it’s easy to be inspired to create a similar but fresh look for the next round of company.

Guests always offer to strip the bed, wash the sheets and refresh the room before they leave. Keeping back-up sets on hand, I can reassure them it’s not necessary (and, being a Virgo, I like to do this myself 😅!) More importantly I’d rather they spend time enjoying those last few moments on Cape before they head out!
(Tap on the last slide, I’ve tagged all the products, you can screenshot for reference!)

After hugs and farewells, it’s a quick change of bedding, then on to the essentials; a run to the Clam Man, the farmer’s market, and maybe a pit stop to grab some wine😉!

Sun Setting on Summer/Life Goes On… (A Personal Sun Setting on Summer/Life Goes On…
(A Personal Post)

My most favorite season, summer, has quickly vanished and honestly I haven’t really noticed at all. Today, I’m sharing a difficult post.

In June, I shared that our beloved Oma passed. I didn’t share that just 10 days later my sister was killed.

The shock and grief has left me with such a heavy heart, not only was she my “little” sister, she was the last of my immediate family. In these past few years Marlene and I grew closer than ever, “we were all we had.”

On my mind now is how precious our time here is and how important it is to keep my family close. My sister was a force- irreverent and outrageous- the life of the party. I wondered what the “new normal” would be for for all of us; her only daughter, (my niece and Godchild Eva), Eva’s beautiful children (Jeffrey and Hailey, who “Nanny” spent every day with) and my sister’s husband, (John) “Poppy.”

Last weekend my niece came up to the Cape from NY with her 2 little ones to spend time with us as we all try and move forward.
We were all marked by the physical loss of Nanny and there was lots of talk about heaven, where she is resting. It was inspiring and comforting to see they are adjusting to the idea.

For me the visit was very healing, their curiosity fueled by the energy of being all together helped me understand that I can move forward with the love of my remaining family and the memory of Marlene.

What a weekend, they had lots of fun at the water’s edge, making new friends on the beach, helping Uncle Creepy (🤷🏼‍♀️) make pizza, and spending time with their big cousins and their Aunt Sand.

My favorite moment was when Hailey slipped away on her own to see the magical sky over Old Silver Beach…it was the first time she noticed a sunset, she called us to come see. She stood mesmerised by the beauty of the setting sun and so did I.

Love is light.✨

Farmer’s Porch, Side Two… Last week I posted Farmer’s Porch, Side Two…

Last week I posted our new seating area just outside the guest room so today I’m sharing the other side; the sunset or beach side of the porch.

Last fall we updated this side with a big porch swing/bed from @theporchswingcompany turning it into the perfect spot for stretching out. With the addition of a second firetable from @prism_hardscapes here, it’s hard to choose which side is more cozy!

My goal was to create two separate “rooms” on this long and narrow porch. One side for comfortable sitting and the other for lounging, and I wanted both to be equally intimate and inviting. I love the size and shape of the Scatola 2 firetables . Their compact size is very versatile, and not overpowering. By using one in each of the sitting areas, the porch feels visually connected overall yet each side still allows for a little different experience.
We are using this porch more than ever now- there is no better place to watch sunset-and it feels like with this refresh, it’s finally “mission accomplished!”

I have had so many messages about these firetables! It’s the perfect time to order one. Here we are, August already, which means cooler mornings and evenings! The firetables will allow us to enjoy a longer outside season! (Swipe for more views)

Location, Location, Location… We love our Farme Location, Location, Location…

We love our Farmer’s Porch, especially on hot summer days when the rest of the cape is steamy. There’s always shade with a cool breeze off the water out here. It’s often considered the best spot in the house.

I’ve finally figured out how to make the best use of space.

I really wanted to create two separate areas. One for my guests to enjoy as a private little getaway off of their bedroom- where they can open the doors and enjoy a morning cappuccino, get lost in a book in the afternoon, or sit with a glass of wine for sunset. And another space with a classic porch swing, where you might sneak off for a mid-day nap.

Adding this set of Cane-line NEST chairs and coffee table just outside the guest room, this side of the porch has been transformed into a perfect little lounge. Giving the porch a dual purpose, with seating in two areas feels more practical and interesting-each area has it’s own personality. I love that they are modern and fresh but still work well with our traditional backdrop. And with their open, airy profile and natural color they don’t “fill” the space too much or block the view.
They are made with a strong aluminum frame but are lightweight and weather resistant. The cushions are water resistant and will not fade from the sun, all important features for me!

And, I finally found a place for that big piece of driftwood that’s been in my basement for years!😅

Swipe through to see some views of this side of the porch-morning, noon and night!

(I’ve linked this Nest set by @Caneline in my stories and I’ve linked their website to my bio!) #ad
